About the LME and LME Clear:

The London Metal Exchange (LME) and LME Clear form the world centre for industrial metals trading and clearing, with the majority of all non-ferrous metal futures business transacted on our platforms. In 2022, 134.2 million lots were traded and cleared, equating to $15.2 trillion and 3.1 billion tonnes notional, with a market open interest high of 1.8 million lots.

The metals community uses the LME and LME Clear platforms to transfer or take on price risk, for clearing and settlement services, as a physical market of last resort and as the provider of transparent global reference prices.

The LME and LME Clear are HKEX Group companies.

About the Regulation and Compliance Department:

The LME Group Regulation and Compliance department combines – amongst other things - the functions of regulation, compliance and regulatory strategy across the LME and LME Clear.  The department is responsible for:

  • Regulation and Compliance Advisory: Ensuring the LME and LME Clear remain compliant with all relevant regulations and maintaining a strong and collaborative ongoing relationship with all relevant regulatory bodies including the Bank of England, the FCA, and the various overseas authorities.

  • Compliance: Working across departments to identify and manage legal and regulatory risks, develop and monitor compliance with policies and provide staff training.

  • Regulatory Affairs: Collaborating with policy makers nationally and globally to advocate that LME Group’s commercial interests are fed into forthcoming regulatory reforms.

About the role:

You will work closely with our Head of Regulatory Affairs, to ensure the LME specifically is kept up to date with all relevant regulations in the UK and abroad and that commercial positions are effectively communicated to policymakers for the wider LME Group.  This will involve working closely with the business, trade associations, external regulatory consultancies and relevant domestic policymakers such as FCA/Bank of England/HMT, and international policymakers such as IOSCO.

Experience required:

You will bring the following skills / experience:

- Demonstrable experience of regulatory policy analysis, condensing dense, complicated, regulations into easily digestible formats and communicating with (often senior) internal and external stakeholders in a clear, confident, and efficient manner.

- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the forward-looking regulatory policy agenda for trading venues and a clear understanding of how the policy making process works, and be able to describe to and educate stakeholders on the issues and their implications.

- An ability influence a wide range of stakeholders of varying levels of experience and seniority will be necessary. Being able to build strong relationships, trust and to achieve results through others is a key quality for the role.
