Wind Turbine Technician for Offshore Wind Farms at
Grimsby, United Kingdom

Job Descrption

Join us in this role where you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing our wind turbines, positively contributing to our safety culture, and working with our engineering specialists to enhance our wind farm performance.

Welcome to Grimsby
You’ll be part of the East Coast Operations where you, together with your colleagues, will be working from our East Coast Hub, a state-of-the-art facility in the Port of Grimsby. Our team operates at the world’s largest offshore wind operations and maintenance centre, which is home to more than 250 colleagues, who all contribute to ensuring that our windfarms are operating at their optimum. As a team, we strive for exceptional performance, with a high focus on safety, production, and cost efficiencies.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • driving a positive safety culture through your actions
  • performing troubleshooting and repairing of electrical and mechanical components, as some technicians will perform the duties of an authorised person on HV equipment
  • servicing and maintaining offshore wind turbines and balance of plant equipment
  • utilising software systems to accurately record all elements of your daily work, incl. hours worked, spare parts used, and technical work order reports
  • preparing and packing spare parts, tools, and other equipment for all elements of maintenance or troubleshooting work
  • being proactive in maintaining and upskilling your competence level and the safety certification required for the job.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have a full apprenticeship in a relevant discipline, such as electrical or mechanical engineering, preferably with further qualifications, such as BTEC or HNC
  • meet the physical, medical, and psychological requirements for working offshore, applicable for up to two weeks with unsociable hours
  • have an aptitude for working at heights and in restricted or confined spaces
  • are a team player with a calm and controlled approach to problem-solving
  • are well-experienced in troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical components and adept in using your own initiative to complete tasks
  • are self-motivated and enjoy working both independently and as a member of a team.

We are looking for people who are comfortable working from either: • One of our Service Operations Vessels (SOV) where you will work offshore on two week shifts with some unsociable hours. • Or working seven-day shifts traveling daily between Grimsby and one of our near shore windfarms. For those working at our far shore locations, you will work from and live on the SOV which will remain at sea for 2 weeks at a time, so you should ensure that any dependents can be catered for in your absence and your happy with being away from family and friends. We will also ask you to undertake any training and take your holidays in your 2 week off shift, for which you will be compensated. Maintenance and troubleshooting work is expected to take place from the SOV on a 24-hour basis, so some working at unsocial hours may be required. We also utilise transport by helicopter, and helicopter hoisting for access to turbines. Technicians involved in helicopter operations will either be based on the SOV, or onshore-based. For those working at our near shore locations, you will be expected to work 11 to 12 hour days, for a 7 day shift, commuting by crew transfer vessel from out hub in Grimsby to one of our windfarms. Due to the length of the working day, you will need to live in easy commuting distance of Grimsby. We may also utilise transport by helicopter, and helicopter hoisting for access to turbines.

Maybe you’ve read the above and can see you have some transferable skills, even though they don’t quite match all the points. If you think you can bring something to the team, we still encourage you to apply.
