OVERVIEW

Perfetti Van Melle (makers of Mentos and Airheads!) is one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of confectionery and chewing gum with global brands that are being enjoyed in more than 150 countries worldwide. We’re currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic HSE Intern based in Rockford, IL to join our growing team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As an HSE Intern, you will support the Health, Safety, and Environment department in implementing and maintaining HSE policies and programs. You will assist in conducting safety inspections, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal HSE regulations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

· Help ensure the plant’s operations comply with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a focus on food safety standards. 

· Assist with Permit to Work (PTW) and contractor management. 

· Help ensure the plant’s operations comply with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a focus on food safety standards. 

· Participate in regular safety inspections and audits of manufacturing processes, machinery, and workplace practices to identify potential hazards. 

· Assist in investigating workplace incidents and near-misses, focusing on root cause analysis and preventive measures. 

· Support the organization and delivery of HSE training sessions to employees, emphasizing food safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response. 

· Contribute to sustainability projects, focusing on waste reduction, energy efficiency, and sustainable sourcing within the confectionary manufacturing process. 

· Prepare and maintain accurate HSE documentation, including incident reports, audit results, and compliance checks. 

· Assist with other duties as needed.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

· Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Food Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. 

· Professional Communication skills (written and verbal) 

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of handling sensitive matters with discretion. 

· Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). 

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 

· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
