Job Title: Technical Operator

Department: Data Lab

Description: We are seeking a Technical Operator to join our Data Lab team. The Data Lab team will deliver technical services, 7 days per week to our animation and visual effects teams, there this role will require working shift patterns.

Reporting into the Head of Data Lab the Technical Operator will be supported by the Senior Data Lab. Operator’s will provide guidance, training and operational leadership to the team.

As a Technical Operator you will be responsible for the management and support of data processing through the VFX and animation pipeline. Media management responsibilities includes ingest, processing, delivery and archive of data and assets.  The Data Lab team provides a render management service, monitoring, reporting and wrangling jobs submitted to the render farm which produces viewable media.   

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and manage the render farm, maximising efficiency and communicating performance and capacity to the business.
• Troubleshoot rendering issues, where required collaborate with TD, Pipeline and IT teams to ensure root causes are identified and resolved.
• Provide reports, including analytics on render farm and storage performance and capacity.
• Capacity planning, collaborating with Production to ensure projects are provisioned with storage and render resources.
• Media management across online, near-line and archive storage.
• Provide data ingest and delivery services, adhering to company security policies and procedures.

Requirements

What we’re looking for:

• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and analytics skills. 
• Knowledge and experience of media management on network storage systems
• Experiencing of using Microsoft Office programs or similar (Atlassian Jira and Confluence, MS, Libre, Google, etc.)

Nice-to-have:

• Knowledge of experience of using render management software (Deadline)
• Experience of using Jira to create and manage workflows and technical documentation.
• Experience of working in a data management team at a Post Production, VFX or Animation company.
• A good understanding of VFX and animation production process and file formats.
