British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) 

The British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) is the voice of private capital in the UK.  We are the industry body and public policy advocate for the private equity and venture capital industry in the UK. We have been acting on behalf of this community for almost 40 years, enabling it to uphold its vision and achieve its goals, as it has moved from a niche part of the investment community to being a mainstream part of the wider economy. We actively represent this diverse community of long-term investors enabling them to speak with one clear and consistent voice to wider society, including the Government, media and MPs. 
The BVCA engages with and supports the private capital community, connecting institutional investors, fund managers, portfolio companies, advisers and service providers. Our membership comprises more than 700 firms, including over 325 private equity and venture capital businesses, over 100 institutional investors and more than 200 professional services firms. Our role is to be the unrivalled forum where the industry gathers to network, learn and address a wide range of issues; of equal importance, we represent the industry to key stakeholders in government, Parliament, the media and elsewhere through the advocacy delivered by our policy and external affairs departments. 
Our members are active long-term investors who engage with their portfolio companies so that they grow and achieve their long-term ambitions – beyond the returns to investors (which typically out-perform the public markets), this also creates value for the country, economically and socially. Over 2.2 million jobs in the UK are backed by private equity and venture capital – many of these are the jobs of the future in high-growth sectors like biotech, software and clean energy, but equally important are those in more established parts of the economy where private capital galvanises the competitiveness and productivity of the companies they invest in. For the UK as a whole, the industry helps to attract investment and talent from around the world to the UK. 

 
The Role 

This exciting and innovative full-time role within the BVCA is an excellent career choice for someone with a meticulous approach to copywriting, data management/CRM, sales, and account management. The role is a hybrid role with a minimum of 2 days in our central London office and may include some occasional travel within the UK to attend BVCA events.  Your responsibilities will focus on:   

Event ticket sales: using the above skills you will manage and execute a marketing and sales strategy to maximise ticket sales across our programme of commercial events ensuring that delegate ratio and revenue targets are met for each event.  

Your day-to-day role will involve working closely with the Events, Marketing and Membership teams to ensure delivery of a successful strategy. 

Required skills and competencies:  

Marketing and copywriting  

  • Develop innovative and results-driven sales and promotional email campaigns for 12-14 annual events with a total annual event revenue target of approximately £1m, working in close partnership with the Events, Membership and Marketing teams 
  • Create engaging and persuasive marketing emails to drive engagement and increase ticket sales  
  • Knowledge of email marketing best practices, including A/B testing, segmentation, and personalised targeting 
  • Experience in using email marketing platforms, preferably Dot Digital 
  • Keep up-to-date with BVCA activities.  

Data Management/CRM   

  • Track record of effectively using CRM systems to successfully manage a sales pipeline as well as drawing on external data sources and desk research 
  • Develop and manage target lists for specific marketing campaigns  
  • Strong administrative background and highly proficient knowledge of Excel and Word (at least intermediate level). To take ownership of the management of all ticket sales documentation e.g. master spreadsheet, pipelines, reconciliations, etc. 
  • Contribute to budgeting, financial mapping and modelling exercises in relation to ticket sales  
  • Manage bookings and all administration relating to ticketed events  
  • Analyse sales trends, feedback and market trends and provide regular reports to colleagues and senior management 

Sales and account management  

  • Engage and develop relationships with both members and non-members of the BVCA, understand the interest of our different member types and address their needs by matching it with our suite of events 
  • Generate sales through a combination of email correspondence, video/phone calls and face-to-face meetings  
  • Represent the BVCA and its work and network with members at events  
  • An understanding of the industry or a willingness, ability and interest to learn about the private capital sector and develop a high level of understanding of BVCA members and events in order to effectively target and sell events.  
  • Working on ad hoc project-based activities to support the membership and commercial team in relation to member relationship management  

Requirements

What you can offer us: 

  • Proficiency in the use of CRM, in particular Microsoft Dynamics 
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is required, particularly in relation to managing and analysing data 
  • Self-starter with a positive “can-do” attitude & a strong work ethic  
  • 3-5 years marketing / sales experience is preferable 
  • Excellent copywriting skills, with the ability to confidently present ideas and concepts to a broad set of audiences 
  • Demonstrate an organised, methodical and accurate approach to work and ability to focus on multiple, competing priorities 
  • Strong internal and external relationship building skills, with the ability to influence at all levels and a track record of success through managing customer relationships 
  • A persuasive and professional manner  
  • Professional, polite, personable and effective communication skills 
  • Collaborative and consultative approach  
  • Private capital/financial services knowledge is an advantage but not essential if you have an interest or willingness to get into the detail of the sector. Experience of working with firms within the industry, or with other large financial or professional services firms would be beneficial 
  • Must have an interest / eagerness to learn about the Private Capital industry.
