Conservation Engagement Programs Coordinator at Denver Zoological Foundation

The Conservation Engagement Coordinator cultivates moments of awe for guests and creates opportunities to act for animals. The Conservation Engagement Coordinator supports strong intra- and interdepartmental partnerships that promote a holistic guest experience. The Conservation Engagement Coordinator contributes to comprehensive guest engagement for on-site visitors through coordination of education-based staff and volunteer programs as well as graphics and exhibit theming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Priority 1 – Conservation Engagement Programs

  • Develop, implement, evaluate, maintain, update, and facilitate new and existing Conservation Engagement Programs, education, exhibits, and volunteer programs in partnership with the Conservation Engagement Manager.
  • Act as staff support for Conservation Engagement Programs by conducting staff hiring, training, and coaching.
  • Manage Conservation Engagement Program staff scheduling.
  • Models outstanding customer service and engagement with guests, Denver Zoo staff, and volunteers.
  • Represents the Denver Zoo to the community in a professional and positive manner.
  • Participate in and provide support for Conservation Engagement and Learning Experiences activities.
  • Assists with departmental strategic planning.
  • Maintain Conservation Engagement Program graphics and exhibit theming.

Priority 2 – Collaboration

  • Collaborates with departmental teams to ensure the Conservation Engagement and Learning Experiences programs have a shared vision.
  • Collaborates with departmental partners to plan and implement staff and volunteer trainings, aligning them with Conservation Engagement and Learning Experiences programming.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with intradepartmental stakeholders.

Priority 3 – Resource/Finance Support

  • Assists with departmental budget development.
  • Maintains budget via programmatic purchasing and purchase tracking as requested. 

Other Responsibilities and Duties

  • Other assistance, as designated by the Conservation Engagement Manager, to support the overall goals of the department and organization.  Denver Zoo retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
  • Direct supervision of variable part time educators, full time Conservation Engagement Facilitators, and Conservation Engagement Specialist.
  • Budget assistance. Acts as a good steward of Denver Zoo’s resources.
  • The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of Denver Zoo.
  • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public].  

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications

  • Completion or in pursuit of a or high school degree or equivalent required, 2-year degree preferred in Education or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. 
  • Academic, work, volunteer, or internship experience in guest service, guest engagement, or education with multigenerational audiences; designing and developing education programs for informal learning audiences; training, coaching and/or supervising staff and/or volunteers; working in a nonprofit environment are preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite are preferred.
  • Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team. 
  • Requires the ability to embrace, support, and integrate Denver Zoo’s philosophies to promote and demonstrate its commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism. 

Position Conditions

  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Work Location: On campus. 
  • Schedule Availability: Days, nights, and weekends.

Compensation

Range for this position is $22.83 - $27.97 (hourly).

A pay differential will be paid for candidates with Spanish speaking fluency.
