Job Description Summary:
You will report to the Head of Credit Legal for the UK. While you will be involved with credit elements, ideally you should be willing to engage on a broad range of UK regulatory matters. To succeed in this challenging and exciting role, you should be self-motivated, independent and well-organised with excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.An ability to work in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders is essential. PayPal is a global company and to excel you will need to be flexible to work with and occasionally accommodate colleagues in different time zones (particularly Europe, the United States and Asia).
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting and acting as a trusted advisor to PayPal UK Ltd’s leadership team and other stakeholders on key legal and regulatory matters.
- Providing clear, timely and actionable legal advice to cross-functional stakeholders on products and features being developed for and launched in the UK and elsewhere.
- Supporting Compliance and Regulatory Relations with engagement with UK and other key regulators.
- Working with the Credit Legal team globally on consumer and business matters including product development, credit agreements, credit promotions and providing advice on relevant laws and regulations to the business.
- Advising on and negotiating agreements with key partners, payment processors and financial institutions to further the development of PayPal’s business.
- Advising on regulatory outsourcing arrangements and appointed representative structures.
- Assisting PayPal’s frontline operational staff with regulatory topics and processes.
- Maintaining and creating repeatable, efficient legal advice processes.
- Identifying productivity improvements and helping to drive and direct process changes to ensure continuing efficiency.
- Providing training on relevant topics.
Ideal Requirements:
- Experienced solicitor or barrister with the ability to practice in the UK.
- Familiarity with laws and regulations applicable to regulated consumer credit and payments entities in the UK. Candidates should be able to navigate key legislation such as FSMA 2000, CCA 1974 and the FCA Handbook. Experience in consumer credit or an adjacent area such as retail banking, mortgage lending, payments, financial services or fintech is highly desirable
- Ability to identify relevant business and legal issues proactively, evaluate the risks and find creative solutions particularly to novel situations
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal concepts and requirements to a range of audiences
- Ability to take ownership of matters, knowing when to take decisions and when to escalate.
- Highly resourceful and collaborative team player, adept at working with cross-functional teams
- Fluent English required, any other European languages may be useful
